As a pilgrimage site the food in Haridwar is mostly if not completely vegetarian. However you can be assured of some amazing variety from across the country to cater to visitors from different parts. In the lanes, by the temples and even on the highway, you will find several small eateries that have a fresh and delicious fare to offer. All hotels and restaurants in the Haridwar Municipal limits serve only vegetarian food. Liquor is prohibited.
Mohanpuri:
This is a small but very old eating joint in the main market of Haridwar near Har Ki Pauri. Their “halwa” and “Poorie” is worth savoring.

Chotiwalas, Subhash Ghat (and other outlets around town):
The closest Haridwar gets to McDonalds; serves up a wide menu of South and North Indian favorites, with some Indian-Chinese thrown in. Most meals are around Rs. 60.
Chotiwalas Asli, Subhash Ghat":
Claiming to be the original, unfranchised Chotiwalas, this is the first shop right below the steps when walking south from Hari-ki-Pauri. The "Chotiwalas Special" (Rs. 75) is a super-filling concoction of paneer and veggies in a creamy tomato base, topped with cheese and yogurt.
