The mall may have quite a different meaning for the teens of today, a shopping heaven with glitzy glass fronts and trendy designer label shops; however for most colonial hill stations the mall has a different shopping experience. It is the main road, the artery and the place you meet everyone else in town as they pace up and down twice a day at least! The mall at Manali is the hub of activity in this tourist town, lined on either side with hotels, restaurants, shops, selling brica a brac and the busy bus station. As the town developed, it became a busier commercial street with modern concrete blocks of hotels that is filled to its capacity in the peak season. Some of the hotels that are built overlooking the gurgling Beas River, have a refreshing view of the valley, green terraced fields and the surrounding orchards.
